Dexcom One Pharmacy FAQ

Blood glucose monitoring via finger pricks gives patients a glucose reading for one static moment in time. It does not provide the patient with their glucose information on any continual basis or provide them with any warning of their glucose going higher or lower than their preferred range. Dexcom One and Dexcom ONE+ is a continuous glucose monitoring system and instead provides the user with a continuous picture of their glucose readings day and night without them having to use finger pricks^*. Alerts on the Dexcom ONE and Dexcom ONE+ system enable the user to be warned of highs/lows to treat their diabetes and make it easier for them to keep their glucose levels within the desired range.

Dexcom ONE provides the user with a continuous picture of their glucose readings day and night without them having to scan or use finger pricks^*. Instead of the scanning required by a flash glucose monitor, glucose measurements are automatically sent wirelessly from the glucose sensor worn by the user to their smart phone/reader^†. Alerts on the Dexcom ONE and Dexcom ONE+ system enable the user to be warned of highs/lows to treat their diabetes and make it easier for them to keep their glucose levels within the desired range. This means that users can achieve excellent clinical results^** and no longer have to scan or even use finger pricks^*. All of the alerts are customisable for the user’s needs and preferences.

NICE now recommends that people with type 1 diabetes are offered a choice of glucose sensor, including rt-CGM.¹  Children and young people with type 1 diabetes should be offered rt-CGM.²  For people with type 2 diabetes the recommendation is that rt-CGM can be considered as an alternative to isCGM.² 

DEXCOM ONE and DEXCOM ONE+

The Dexcom ONE sensors last up to 10 days and along with the transmitter (re-usable with up to a 3-month battery life) are available on drug tariff if the patient is eligible as per local criteria^*. Dexcom ONE sensors can be prescribed monthly or quarterly. The patient’s transmitter requires changing after 3 months and is also available on prescription.

What products are available?

*When filling prescriptions for sensors, please note that Dexcom ONE transmitters are only required by the patient every 3 months. Patients start to be notified of the transmitter battery life 3 weeks prior to needing a replacement and should ask their GP to add Dexcom ONE transmitter to their repeat prescriptions list.

How to order Dexcom ONE+ sensors and transmitters

Dexcom should be contacted directly by the patient and not the pharmacy, specialist centre or GP practice. The patient should report any sensor issues on the day a problem is identified through the Dexcom Technical Support portal, which can be accessed online at: https://dexcom-intl.custhelp.com/app/support_request/. The patient should keep the displaced/faulty Dexcom ONE sensor in case it needs to be returned for investigation.

Dexcom ONE system Kits, Dexcom ONE sensors, Dexcom ONE transmitters and Dexcom ONE+ sensors "Discount not Deducted" (DND) status for reimbursement for dispensing pharmacies.  

The shelf life of Dexcom One products is 12 months.

The Dexcom ONE Sensor wear is up to 10 days and the transmitter lasts up to 3 months. 

The Dexcom ONE + is an all in one sensor and applicator – the sensor lasts for up to 10 days.
